Peter and Paul Church Vielau, Saxony

Special acoustic requirements of historic church interiors

The interior is characterized by a continuous gallery structure and pronounced reverberation. These factors place high demands on speech intelligibility and the even distribution of sound throughout the church.

The planning, acoustic design, and installation were carried out by our partner, AKE-Systemtechnik. A K.M.E. loudspeaker system was used, specifically adapted to the complex spatial configuration.

Through the precise positioning of the slim loudspeaker systems along the existing wooden structure, even coverage of all listening areas – both in the nave and on the galleries – was achieved. At the same time, great care was taken to integrate the system as unobtrusively as possible into the historically protected environment.

The installed solution provides significantly improved speech intelligibility throughout the entire space, despite the acoustically challenging conditions. The system blends subtly into the historic architecture, preserving the character of the church while simultaneously providing clear and natural reproduction of speech and music.
